have to figure there are cheaper options at the same production level for a 4th liner than 2M...right?

Not really. Pens got lucky when they got Cullen, looking at the UFA list... I'd rather have Sheahan than someone like Beagle, Gibbons, Letestu, Vermette, etc.

Sheahan can also play 3C if necessary if the Pens shift Brassard to wing. His versatility makes it worth 2m IMO.

Need to bring back Oleksiak after losing Cole he's basically only D man that plays physical

I'd like to see the Pens move Brassard up and down the lineup throughout the season, and in turn shift Sheahan to 3C when Brassard is being tried up at wing

When we need the depth, we can go back to the 4C model

That was the fatal flaw against the Caps IMO. By playing 4 lines we watered down our lineup against an injury weakened Caps team

Should have rolled 3 lines at times

Jake Sid Horn
Brass Geno Phil
Rust Sheahan Sheary

could also flip Brass and Horn

minimal ice and PK time to

Oleksiak will be cheap. He didn't do anything to warrant a big raise, so I think that's a nonfactor. Also he was pretty overrated around these parts so I think that gives him a higher perceived value. Not terrible, but he was alright.

Sheahan is a for sure keeper at anything under $3M per year.

Please keep Sheahan GMJR. Liked the trade from the get go and after about 7 or 8 games he really fit in. There were nights, before the Brassard trade, that his line with him at 3C was the best for either team on the ice.

All this talk about Brassard being 2C insurance in case one of the big 2 go down...so if that did happen, who's playing 3C and 4C?

He'll get a full training camp and season with Pens this year. He's still young and can improve individually and within in the system. RFA and cost controlled.

Keep him.

This is a guy I think we'll see improve this year with a full training camp and the games last season under his belt. Like ya said, he wont cost much either.

Yeah I think he'll be solid next year at a really good cost for the Pens.

I wouldn't expect much change from a 25 year old player with almost 200 NHL games played.

I would from a D man. Too many D-man to list didnt come into their own until mid to late 20's.

Most players hit their peak age by age 24 or 25 then decline gradually until age 30, at which point their performance can begin to tumble more noticeably with the risk of absolute collapse by age 34 or 35.

Crazy that it says forwards peak later than D, definitely wouldn't have guessed that.

Yeah I think peak age is largely misunderstood because it takes 2 or 3 years of good performance sometimes before we recognise a player being good.

I wouldn't put much stock in the D analysis as the author themselves states

but our sample is severely limited (the delta method yielded only 20 defensemen aged 18-20). I’m not sure we can trust the data for the young defensemen

They analyzed peak performance in a number of ways, but the statistics they relied on were regular season points scored and plus-minus for skaters and save percentage for goalies.

That CBC article uses points scored and plus/minus. There is no way I'm going to trust that lol hell no.
